June 1999 Messages

i would just like to bring to everyone's attention a superb
website which is devoted to contemporary writers and the
independent small presses who publish them. the organisation is
called >ism< and is devoted to making the small press world
accessible to everyone by means of a website which promotes new
poetry and prose every week, as well as highlighting various
writers, chapbooks and back catalogues of work. an audio library
of spoken word performances is now being constructed and will
shortly be available to download.the site itself is a graphic
star, so brighten up your day and go to: www.poetryism.com

Eggplant Productions' second e-chap is ready to order. Faerie Gold can be found at the url above. Stories by James A. Hartley, Connie Wilkins, Michael Mahoney and Judy Tucker complement the poetry by Arlene Ang, Monnette Ellison, Chris Gregory, Daniel J. Bishop and Lawrence Schoen. Unlike printed chapbooks, the e-chap offers music and cartoons along with the stories and poetry. Still unsure if Faerie Gold is for you? Download the free sample to get a taste of what's in store. http://www.eggplant-productions.com/faerie/

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: SUB DEE #5

The UFO Phenomenon is one of the most enduring of media legends. Although the human race has always made Îcontactâ with little people throughout the ages (elves, faeries, pixies), the Phenomenon ÷ in its present incarnation ÷ is squarely linked to our late-capitalist, technological miasma. It is a product of our society and questions the very nature of Reality itself.
You may be a believer, a skeptic or merely a seriously disillusioned individual with schizophrenic tendencies... Whatever ÷ everyone has an opinion on this most perplexing of mysteries. Remember: all viewpoints are valid because there is no right or wrong. This is very much uncharted territory.
Sub Dee seeks contributions covering ALL forms and angles of the debate: essays, fiction, poetry, cartoons, graphic design, diatribes, manifestos, SF, field studies, debunking theories, debriefings, sightings, abductions, conspiracies, satire, comedy, erotica, alien sex, socio-political enquiries, psychological querying. The Pros and the Cons. Both sides of the coin. For and against. And anything in between.

We believe that debate is healthy: it can be invigorating to speculate; or vital to maintain the Status Quo. The choice, as always, is yours.

Closing date: August 6 1999.

First I would like everyone to note the new e-mail address and url for MindMares. I'm trying to get everyone crossed over so I can cancel the prodigy account. So change those bookmarks.:)

MindMares is having its first contest. Rules are posted on the web page. There is a two dollar entry fee -- 1st prize 75.00, 2nd 50.00 and 3rd 25.00 with the 10 ten stories being published.

MindMares also becomes a paying zine with the January 2000 issue which is being read for now. I look forward to seeing some new faces.

TTA Press (publishers of THE THIRD ALTERNATIVE, CRIMEWAVE and ZENE) has a new URL (see above). We've also just set up an email list called "storyville", in which members discuss the writing and publishing of short stories, touching on a number of different subjects along the way (films, novels, fix-ups, Radio 4...). The membership is growing daily. If you'd like to join simply email me and I'll sign you up. It's free, it's informal, it's entertaining and it's helpful.

New issues of all three magazines are out now. See forthcoming BBR Directory for details. Submissions of sf/f/slipstream stories (no poetry) are welcome for TTA, and crime stories are welcome for Crimewave. Postal address is TTA Press, 5 Martins Lane, Witcham, Ely, Cambs CB6 2LB, England. Overseas submissions need not enclose return postage, we'll reply via email.

Coming soon... DARK STAR...
