WHO KILLED JOHNNY B? - The site that attempts to answer the questions the authorities refuse to ask.

Punk/New wave rock icon Johnny B (aka Bukowski) was found dead at his London apartment on 29 October 1998. The authorities have treated the case as suicide, but the exact circumstances of Johnny's death are still unclear one-year on.

This site brings together articles, MP3s of rare recordings (including demo's of 'Fire in my Heart', 'Hope in Hell', 'UKPlc' and 'Shoot Another One'), a discography, album reviews, etc with a transcript of the revealing "Blood on the Canvas" documentary, in production at the time of Johnny's demise, and extracts from the JohnnyBnews electronic discussion list.

The latter includes an e-mail from a fan, dated July 1998, claiming to have had a premonition of Johnny's killing, plus the ensuing on-line flame war. The documentary reveals the conflict at the heart of PVC Records over the last-minute cancellation of Johnny's European and UK tour in Summer 1998 and the financial consequences - which were only averted following a series of posthumous releases of Johnny B and the Banned's back catalogue.

Your help is required in two respects, firstly to sign an electronic petition calling on the powers that be to reopen Johnny's case and find/confirm the real killer, and secondly to add to the shamefully poor public document of Johnny Bukowski's contribution to rock music by sharing your own personal experiences and ruminations on his songs, his concerts and his influence on the artists operating at the cutting edge of today's music industry.

Thanks for your help.

Pete

Your Novel published, promoted and distributed, a free magazine, Free advertising and massive discounts all for £10

NMN magazine is totally dedicated to publishing novels by new and developing writers. In order to help eight authors get their book into print early next year we are launching a competition to find the best new writing available today.

If you have ever tried to get your novel published you will know how difficult it can be; The big publishing houses don't want to know unless you are a 'name' and the small independent presses rarely handle anything as large as a full length novel. Of course, there is always vanity publishing, but who has £6000 to waste on something which will receive no promotion or sales support.
NMN magazine is a totally new type of magazine dedicated solely to serialising novels by new and promising writers. The author of each novel serialised receives a royalty based on sales of the magazine, just as they would if their novel was published in book form.
And there's more! In each issue of the magazine our readers will have the chance to make advanced orders for the book of their choice. When we receive enough orders to make a book a viable commercial proposition the author will receive a book contract and a further royalty on sales of their book.

The Rules
1- Submissions should consist of the first 10,000 words or 4 chapters of your novel (which ever is longer).
2- Enclose the attached entry form (photocopies allowed) and £10(US$18) fee (Cheques/POs made payable to JGD) with your entry.
3- Each entry must be the competitors original work and must not have been published, broadcast or electronically transmitted in its entirety previously. (Publishing, broadcasting or transmitting or excepts or individual chapters is permissible).
4- Novels can be on any theme or genre.
5- Competitors are free to enter as many MSS as they wish
6- Each contestant receives a free one issue subscription to New Millennium Novels magazine and is entitled to discounted rates on all our other publications
7-Manuscripts should bear only the stories name. The authors name, address and word count should appeared on a separate cover sheet.
8- The closing date for entries is December 1 1999
9- The five winning authors will be notified by January 10, 2000 when they will receive publishing contracts for the serialisation of the novel.
10- Serialisation of the winning novels will begin in Issue 1 of NMN magazine which will be released on April 1, 2000.

Newswire Global Markets Newsletter is the new print magazine for writers, artists, photographers and musicians who want to increase their sales by selling to magazines, newspapers and other publishers around the world. Every issue contains over 50 new markets, in-depth market segment reports, features on selling your work abroad and hints & tips from others selling their work around the world.

We are looking for the following material.
1. Short news items on magazines/ newspapers who are looking for freelance work.100 - 300 words with full contact details, editors name, features ed, news editor, art editor. Obtain as much information as you can, preferably get quotes from one of the above of what they are currently looking for. If they have their own set guidelines get a copy and send it to us. Be sure you have read a copy of any magazine you write about. It is easy to pick out articles written about markets you have never actually read and we would not purchase such features.

2. In depth Market segment reports. 2000 -10,000 words. A very thorough guide to writing feature articles or providing photographs for particular type of publication. Recently we have covered "Writing for Women's magazines world wide" and "Writing Travel features for magazines and newspapers world wide." Depending on length each market segment reports will run to 4 pages serialised over 2, 3 or 4 issues. Photos or actual covers form 60% of the titles in each report will be required.

3. Competition News. Details of current short story, poetry, photography or art competitions. Include address, fees due, closing date, prizes. Where possible a full set of rules should be provided. We are also interested in short short news items about people who have won such competitions recently.

4.Features which will help other improve their sales to markets world wide. These should be based on your own experiences and illustrated with examples from your own portfolio of published work. We do not want How To Write type features we have had hundreds sent in already and they are returned unread. Newswire is about how to sell you work so articles should be based on marketing, information research, communicating effectively, developing long term relationships with editors thousands of miles away etc. If you have a good track record of international sales we would also be interested in personal stories of how you began, made each sale and lessons you learnt along the way. Copies of some of your published works should be included for use as illustrations.

Although Newswire is published in the UK it sells in 32 countries, so publications that are local to you will be overseas to many of our readers. We will be looking to appoint regional editors who can supply us with good regular material from their own area. To become a regional editor you will need to supply us with 4 or 5 good market pieces from your own area/ country for several months.

Submissions should be made by e-mail (in the body, no attachments except for photographs). For market news our response time will be 48 hours. For features the response time will be 2 - 3 weeks.
